The new Volkswagen Amarok pick-up enjoyed a successful auction debut recently during a closed sale at Manheim Auctions, Bruntingthorpe.
The two 2011 Amarok double cabs sold were both the top Highline specification with selectable 4Motion all-wheel drive with the powerful 2.0-litre, 163ps Bi-Turbo TDI engine and six-speed manual gearbox.
The vehicles shared the same specifications including leather upholstery, metallic paint, satellite navigation, towbar, underbody protection, load compartment protection and mechanical differential lock. One Amarok with 7,113 miles achieved 98% of list price while the other, with 674 miles, achieved an excellent 104% of list price.
Just over 90% of the 84 vans entered were sold to an audience representing over 30 Volkswagen Van Centres with brisk bidding both in the auction lane and online via Simulcast. Other Volkswagen models sold included the Caddy, Caddy Maxi, Transporter, Crafter vans, Shuttle and Caravelle people carriers, and its California campervan.
Roger Hawes, fleet operations and used vehicle manager, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, said: “With sales of our new models beating all records so far this year, our Van Centres also need to meet the strong demand for our used vehicles, and following the Amarok’s successful launch, sales have outstripped supply, so our Van Centres will already have customers waiting for these models.”
James Davis, director of Commercial Vehicles, Manheim Remarketing, added: “An auction debut is always an exciting occasion especially for such an important vehicle. Demand in this auction certainly exceeded our expectations, not just for the two Amaroks but for all the Volkswagen vans at the auction, while those attending were extremely positive and expressed confidence in the used van market.”
