In order to have up-to-the-minute visibility of its van fleet, UK-based aerial, satellite and solar product distributor Alltrade Aerial & Satellite has turned to FleetMatics.
Richard Poole, operations director, recognised that the existing vehicle tracking solution was not providing the right level of information.
He said: “Our aim to improve customer service was being hampered by the poor visibility we had on the location of our vehicles.
“Some deliveries were taking a longer time to arrive at certain locations than we had scheduled and we required more analytical capability in our routing plans. More specifically, we needed a system to provide real-time location data for each of our 13 vehicles to ensure proof of delivery.”
Following a thorough investigation of several GPS providers, Poole decided that the FleetMatics GPS Tracking System was the solution to his problem.
“Our drivers see the FleetMatics GPS Tracking Solution as a significant improvement to the old GPS system,” he said.
“On a day-to-day basis we are already reaping the rewards through better and more flexible dispatching of our vehicles, which has in-turn improved customer service and reduced operational and admin costs. One of our biggest overheads is fuel costs; with FleetMatics Fuel Card integration we’re starting to see that with more efficient routing the fuel bills are lowering – even though fuel costs continue to rise. ”
Daily reports are sent directly to Poole’s iPhone, so he’s able to investigate any unusual events immediately and wherever he is.
Additionally, he is able to access information from the GPS Fleet Tracking tool to benefit other aspects of the business, such as the ability to check time sheets; to correctly identify which van and driver is responsible should there be any speeding offences, motor accidents or parking tickets; and how long a specific delivery should take.
“The iPhone App is fabulous,” added Poole, “All the info at a glance and in your pocket and in real time.”
