Further UK success of the Fiat 500 city car was revealed with the news that the 100,000th example was sold here last month – four and a half years since its launch.

It follows on from April’s official UK sales figures in which the 500 was placed inside the top 10 best sellers with 2,600 vehicles sold.

The figure breakdown reveals that:

  • 80 per cent of all 500 sales have been 1.2-litre petrol engine versions;
  • Eight per cent of sales are of the new 0.9-litre two cylinder TwinAir version, which was not introduced until 2010;
  • 48 per cent of cars purchased are in the top-of-the-range Lounge trim;
  • The most popular colour choices are Bossanova white, Pasodoble red, Volare light blue and the metallic Crossover black

“We were always confident that the 100,000 landmark would come,” says Elena Bernardelli, marketing director, Fiat Group Automobiles UK Ltd. “It’s a wonderful achievement and I am sure that we will see many more sales successes in the years to come.”
