London’s transport commissioner Peter Hendy said: “We are now approaching the final days of the London 2012 Games and today we will see yet another day of exhilarating sporting events.

“Record numbers are using the transport network during this exciting time for our city, with over 4.5 million journeys on the Tube on Tuesday - the busiest day in London Underground’s history.

“We’re tremendously grateful to Londoners for their efforts in adapting their travel patterns – it’s made a huge contribution to the success of the Games so far and I would urge people to continue to plan their journeys and avoid the busiest stations at the busiest times.”
