Since Microlise launched its Incident Data Recorder they have received significant interest and orders from existing and new customers.

The Incident Data Recorder is part of Microlise’s new Safety Module option which plugs into its core Fleet Performance Telematics solution.

A simple over-air firmware upgrade to Microlise’s MTU3 in-vehicle telematics device, the Incident Data Recorder software monitors the location, speed & heading of the vehicle, along with a range of CANBus data elements 5 times a second.

In the event of an incident, the Microlise system records 60 seconds of data, (30 seconds before and 30 seconds after the trigger), which then allows users to understand in great detail what the vehicle and driver were doing leading up to and after the incident.

This creation of an incident log is based via a number of triggers: Harsh Deceleration (no braking trigger), Harsh Braking and a Forward Facing Camera trigger. Optionally, this ‘black box recorder’ functionality can be configured to trigger off events such as Microlise’s new Harsh Cornering event.

The data Microlise currently capture in an Incident log, every ¼ of a second, includes: Vehicle location, speed and direction, Accelerator position, Braking (Engine & Service), ABS status, Clutch activation and gear selected, Cruise control state, Revs, Engine Torque and PTO State.

Log files are automatically transmitted over air to the Microlise Server. A ‘safety’ user can access these logs via a new web console Microlise have developed as part of the Incident Data Recorder solution.

Matt Hague, product strategy director at Microlise commented, “We are really pleased with the response our safety module has received in the market place. It’s been a significant investment for us over the last few months, we were convinced, based upon customer feedback that the Safety Module was just the enhancement we needed to our Telematics solution to enable us to continue our tradition of offering useful and innovative solutions, but it’s always pleasing to see the levels of response we have”.

“We have some other really exciting enhancements planned in the coming months and we look forward to similar levels of interest and orders”.
