The Independent Automotive Aftermarket Federation (IAAF) and its members have raised more than £85,000 for motor trade charity BEN in 2013.

The figure was confirmed at the recent IAAF Annual Awards Dinner, where the charity was again featured prominently.

The traditional envelope donation raised £5,800 which was swelled by the proceeds of an auction for a World Cup 1966 football shirt, which bore the autographs of several of the World Cup squad. The competitive bidding reached the heady heights of £1,000.

Earlier in the evening, IAAF chief executive Brian Spratt pointed out that BEN’s activities are 24 hours a day 365 days a year and drew attention to the year-long efforts of the independent aftermarket who raise funds for the charity.

“People who’ve run marathons, swam, cycled, baked cakes, held bring and buy sales, donated through regular payroll giving, climbed mountains, and a host of other activities for BEN, are all deserving of our recognition,” he said.

He introduced Elliot Seal, of Autoparts and Diagnostics in Cheltenham, who presented a cheque for £3500 raised at the APD/BEN Cricket Match in July this year.

The BEN telecom alliance, which donates a portion of all the call charges to BEN, delivered a cheque for £10,300, bringing the total the alliance has raised over the years to a massive £180,000.

Gary Sheriff and Stuart Bayne, NGK’s northern and southern sales managers, reported on their recent fund-raising at the Motorcycle Live show, where they sold NGK goody bags to the show visitors, raising £4015, bringing NGK’s total fundraising through the year to over £10,300.

Finally, Brian Spratt reported on the fund-raising of the IAAF Company Team Golf Challenge that, with the generous donations from the players plus the proceeds of the event, raised a total of £1,633 pounds. The IAAF Board of Directors have rounded this up to deliver a donation of £2,000.
