Johnsons, a bus and coach operator in the West Midlands, has deployed the Greenroad driver performance management system across its fleet of 50 buses and has saved tens of thousands of pounds in fuel whilst cutting the risk of road incidents.
Since going live with Greenroad, Johnsons has seen its team of nearly 80 drivers reduce the number of risky manoeuvres by 78 per cent. At the end of 2012, before the drivers were given in-cab feedback, Johnsons had 25 higher risk drivers and now it has none.
Now, the bus fleet has travelled 50,000 more miles than in the same period in 2012 yet used 11,000 litres less fuel. This has resulted in a saving of tens of thousands of pounds.
“Our team of professional drivers is now much better at anticipating events. As some of our routes involve country roads with tractors, this results in a smoother ride for passengers and reduced risk for the fleet. Greenroad brings wellbeing to drivers and customers and this is supported and celebrated by the continual success of our drivers,” said Peter Johnson, Johnsons’ managing director.
He added: “We didn’t have many accidents to begin with but we chose Greenroad because we could see how it would increase road safety - by empowering our drivers with information transparency as well as reducing our costs. It is gratifying to know that passengers are complimenting drivers on their smooth journeys and we are seeing an increase in fuel-efficient driving. The ability to track our vehicles has also proved to be very beneficial.”
The driver performance feedback from Greenroad is complemented by an incentive scheme recognising improved driving, consistent driving, no incidents and the number of times a driver logs in to check their profile. The scheme rewards drivers on a weekly, monthly and annual basis.
Andy Cozens, director of sales, said: “We are delighted to have secured one of Britain’s most highly respected PCV operators as a customer. With its decision to use Greenroad, Johnsons has demonstrated a strong commitment to offer its customers the very highest standards of service, comfort and safety.”
