BMW has unveiled the new fourth-generation 1 Series, which is available to order now.

Set to arrive in the UK in October, the new model is heavy revision of the existing 1 Series.

Styling changes are significant, with a fresh face and all-new interior.

BMW has also changed its naming strategy. The 'i' designation is now reserved only for electric models. So the 120i is now simply known as the 120.

No diesel powertrain is offered in the latest 1 Series. BMW is launching the car with two powertrains, both petrol.

The 120 is a 1.5-litre three-cylinder with a mild hybrid system There is also the M135, which uses a 2.0-litre unit. Both have a seven-speed automatic gearbox.

No plug-in hybrid or electric powertrains have been detailed.

Fleet customers will find the 120 most appealing, with CO2 emissions of 121-135g/km. BMW says the car can achieve 47-53mpg.

All new 1 Series models are equipped with BMW iDrive, using the latest Operating System 9.0 software. Its delivered via a pair of screens that form a panoramic display at the top of the dashboard. There's a 10.7-inch touchscreen, used for the infotainment, and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. 

There's a significantly extended range of automated driving and parking systems as standard. These include the Driving Assistant with front collision warning, Lane Departure Warning, Exit Warning and Traffic Sign Recognition, as well as the Parking Assistant with Reversing Assistant.

All versions also come with automatic air conditioning, alarm system, electrically folding exterior mirrors, LED headlights and heated front seats.

Prices for the BMW 120 start at £29,950 and Sport and M Sport trims are offered. The M135 comes in 'M' trim only, priced at £41,000.
