Research from LeasePlan UK has revealed that 84% of Brits would choose to drive their own car home after work compared to less than 1% who would take the tube.
The study of 1,000 respondents highlights that UK motorists are still in love with driving, with 46% of middle-aged drivers admitting to using their car for ‘me time’.
Thirty-nine per cent preferred their car for the comfort and 20% of 18-25 year olds preferred it for the looks.
Forty-five per cent admitted having their own space makes them feel the best and a further 38% of respondents said freedom was a main factor.
The survey data also revealed the nation is divided on the types of road they prefer; 35% of drivers chose motorways, while 29% of drivers prefer taking the more scenic routes.
LeasePlan UK’s managing director Matt Dyer (pictured) said: “It’s really encouraging to see the UK is truly a nation who still have a passion and love of driving, especially as electric, autonomous cars and vans, and new forms of mobility gain importance.
“But time and again we hear from motorists that the joy of driving is taken away with potholes, congested roads and road-works.
"Although the Government is taking steps towards improving road conditions they need to provide a better connected and dynamic infrastructure to facilitate the future needs of all road users.”
