Innovate UK will set out the key highlights of projects currently underway that will transform the future of the strategic road network.

Karla Jakeman, Innovate UK, innovation lead - connected transport, will present a session at the Fleet Mobility Conference on November 5 at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge London, to pick out some of the most interesting of the recent 23 projects awarded funding as part of two Highways England competitions.

The Fleet Mobility Conference will provide unique insight into the trends, developments and challenges that affect the way businesses move their people, goods and services around the UK, with expert conference sessions throughout the day.

The show will help vehicle manufacturers, leasing, rental, mobility providers and other fleet suppliers with the knowledge and resources they need to plan - and help their customers to plan - for 2020 and beyond.

Some of the recent projects winners from Highways England competition include green light speed advisory systems that help to reduce stop start driving, motorway electric vehicle charging using thermo-mechanical energy storage, pilots on offering real time data between connected vehicles and the road network, as well as autonomous vehicle infrastructure readiness studies.

Innovate UK is part of UK Research and Innovation, a non-departmental public body funded by a grant-in-aid from the UK government.

Jakeman said: “There is a lot going on right now with development on connectivity and autonomous vehicles on the strategic road network.

“These are all innovations that will help with air quality, autonomous and connected infrastructure features that will roll out in the coming years and I will help bring to life the likely changes to transport and mobility that government policy and technological development will bring.

“This is the future that the fleet sector needs to understand and adapt their businesses to in order to enable the evolution of integrated and efficient movement of people and goods.”
