Fiat has unveiled the new Grande Panda, a compact SUV with hybrid and electric powertrain options.

It's the first of a new family of Panda models from the brand. These are expected to include a larger SUV, a fastback, a pick-up and a camper van.

The Grande Panda competes in the compact SUV segment, sharing a platform with the Citroen C3 Aircross and Vauxhall Frontera.

It has a compact footprint, with a length of 3.99m and a width of 1.76m. Fiat says there is ample room inside for five passengers, due to clever packaging.

Further practicality comes from the car's 361-litre boot, which is enhanced by a 13-litre storage compartment in the dashboard.

A pair of 10-inch screens are fitted as standard, providing infotainment and instrument cluster functions. Fiat has also included conventional switchgear for the climate controls, heated seats and come of the ADAS functions.

The electric version uses a 44kWh battery and 113PS motor, giving a range of 199 miles (WLTP). Top speed is 82mph and the car has a 0-62 mph acceleration time of 11 seconds. As a first for the segment, the Grande Panda is equipped with an integrated AC retractable cable at the front (in addition to the rear charging port), capable of charging at up to 7kW, completing a charge from 20% to 80% in 4 hours and 20 minutes. The rear charging port supports 11kW AC charging and up to 100kW DC rapid charging.

The Hybrid version is equipped with a 1.2 litre turbocharged petrol engine with a 48-volt hybrid system. It develops 100PS and has a CO2 output of 123g/km.

Prices for the new Grande Panda will start from £18,975. More details will be revealed when the car goes on sale later this year.
