Petrol engines dominated the list of the fastest-selling used cars for April accounting for 70% of the top 10 compiled by Indicata, part of Autorola UK.
The Hyundai Tucson petrol SUV and BMW 3 Series petrol saloon were joint winners of April’s fastest selling used car accolade taking an average of just 35 days to sell out of a total of 80,776 used cars on the Indicata system.
Indicata UK’s national business development manager Neil Gilligan said: “April’s data serves to highlight the strength of the petrol market in April and signals one of the first months where diesel demand was outweighed by petrol.”
It is the second consecutive month the Tucson has taken the fastest-selling slot - in March selling in 39 days. The average used price of the petrol Tucson fell by £690 month-on-month in April to £16,423, reinforcing the higher volume of stock now in the market following the March plate change.
It is the first time the BMW 3 Series has made the top 10 in 2019 and the only saloon to feature. It sold for an average sale price of £21,107.
In joint second place were petrol versions of the Kia Sportage and Ford Focus which took an average of 39 days to sell. Third place went to the petrol Vauxhall Mokka and Ford EcoSport at 40 days.
SUVs continue to dominate comprising 60% of the top 10 with the remainder hatchbacks, except for the BMW 3-Series.
At the opposite end of the Indicata data, the slowest-selling used cars were the petrol Nissan Micra (71 days), Nissan diesel Nissan X-Trail and petrol MINI at 67 days, and the petrol Suzuki Vitara (64 days).
Average days to sell were also at their lowest since the turn of the year which reinforces the current strength of the used car market.”
Gilligan said: “With four used cars costing an average of more than £20,000 on the list it shows that consumers are prepared to spend a reasonable sum on their car. These drivers could be some of those motorists who have been moving from buying a new car to a used car.”
