The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) has awarded multiple maintenance and repair contracts to Rivus starting from November 1, 2023.
Following a multi-lot, competitive tender process, which began in February 2022, Rivus has been appointed to take care of the blue-light fleet for a period of up to 10 years.
The Metropolitan Police Service, which employs 43,000 officers and staff and is the UK’s largest police force, operates more than 5,200 fleet assets on the roads in Greater London, travelling 52 million miles each year.
Rivus will manage the fleet maintenance and repair of 3,700 emergency response, support and general-purpose vehicles as part of the new deal.
Victoria Knight, interim CEO at Rivus said: “This is a hugely significant new win for our business and recognises the journey we have been on and the progress we have made over the last three years as Rivus.
“We have earned a reputation in our industry as the experts in managing the UK’s most critical fleets, and there is no fleet more critical than the Met Police.”
After 20 years with the same supplier, the Metropolitan Police Service had ambitions to move from a single supplier, which was Babcock, to a multi-supplier model, with the services split across six service area requirements covering service maintenance and repair (SMR), accident management, vehicle collection and delivery, and a service management IT platform.
Rivus made the strategic decision to tender for all six contracts. Following the procurement and evaluation process, the Metropolitan Police Service awarded all six contract areas to Rivus.
Knight continued: “This is an exciting new chapter for Rivus, as we continue to accelerate growth, drive innovation, and deliver a financially healthy business for the future, demonstrating that Rivus is the only fleet partner our customers ever need.”
The Met and Rivus have now entered a joint delivery transition period with the current supplier, Babcock, until Rivus takes sole charge from November.
Between now and then, Rivus will work with Babcock and the Met fleet team to ensure a seamless operational transition that keeps the critical police fleet moving throughout.
