JLR has re-launched its in-house insurance solution in a bid to help customers that are struggling with soaring premiums.
While insurance costs have been increasing across the board, Range Rover vehicles have suffered particularly large premium hikes. In some cases, insurance providers have declined to cover Range Rovers.
Land Rover Insurance launched in October and has so far provided more than 4,000 clients with a JLR insurance solution, with an average monthly premium of less than £200.
JLR's previous insurance offer was canned in November, last year, after Tracker revealed that the Range Rover Sport and Range Rover Autobiography were the two most stolen cars in 2022.
Eligible clients can now obtain a quote from Land Rover Insurance online. The fully comprehensive insurance ensures any repairs are completed by a JLR authorised bodyshop, using only genuine parts. The policy is completely flexible, with no deposits or interest charges, and clients are able to amend or cancel their cover with no fee. The price is also guaranteed for 12 months.
A JLR spokesperson, said: “Customers of luxury cars and other luxury goods are experiencing an increase in thefts due to organised criminal activity in the UK. The desirability of our luxury vehicles, coupled with concerns around thefts, has recently led to challenges in obtaining insurance cover for some clients. We are fully committed to doing everything we can to address this by adopting a multifaceted approach: from our significant investment in vehicle security, to now providing our own insurance.
“While our new insurance proposition is a key milestone, we want to reassure clients that we will continue monitoring and refining our service so that even more clients can take advantage of it.”
JLR has invested £10m in a project to improve the security of its cars. Since January 2022, it claims only 0.07% of new Range Rover and new Range Rover Sports on the road have been stolen, while only 0.3% of new Defenders have been affected since 2020.
The latest security and technology can also be deployed to previous generation vehicles, including those out of warranty, ensuring they are updated with the same levels of protection as current models.
Updates, says JLR, have already been rolled out in the UK to more than 65,000 vehicles, reducing thefts of Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models built from 2018 to 2022 by more than 40%.
