Vistors to the Smart Transport Conference, to be held at Birmingham ICC on September 18, will hear the latest on a number of smart transport solutions, which will be debated and discussed.

The conference connects the policies set out by the public sector to the capabilities presented by the private sector. Delegates will join the UK’s leading policy-makers and the country’s most authoritative smart transport stakeholders in a series of expert keynote presentations, debate, networking and collaboration.

It will play host to 34 thought leaders from central and regional government, leading transport and automotive companies and academia, who will share their experience through a series of presentations.

Key speakers include: Bridget Rosewell, commissioner, National Infrastructure Commission; Professor Jillian Anable, Professor of transport and energy, Institute for Transport Studies, University of Leeds; Polly Billington, director, UK100; Richard Bruce, director of Energy, Technology and Innovation, Department for Transport (DfT); Siobhan Campbell, head of the central research team and deputy chief scientific advisor at the DFT; Elliot Shaw, executive director of strategy and planning at Highways England; and Dr Mike Short, chief scientific adviser at the Department for International Trade (DIT).

Stephen Joseph, chair of Smart Transport, said: “Smart Transport starts from challenging the silos in transport and mobility – between local and national, public and private, the motor industry and transport services – and seeks to break them down and get people talking.

The Smart Transport Conference, with its focus on understanding the pressures on national and local governments, backed up by collaboration and partnership between private and public sector organisations showcases the debate on what innovation and technology can do to make transport better for all.”

Topics will include:

  • Why the UK will be the best place in the world for Smart Transport to do transport digitally
  • Developing innovative solutions to grow Urban Transport Services in the UK
  • Which technologies are real time solutions to leverage a smarter and greener transport system?
  • How public private collaboration is the key to successful shared mobility services
  • Powering the charge to zero-emission vehicles
  • How technology will deliver a safer, more resilient, efficient network
  • The Power of Place: how local leadership makes the difference on clean transport
