With almost three-quarters of fleets now working from home, with some furloughed, and most manufacturer production plants in shutdown, it is no surprise that new car deliveries have all but dried up.

Our new survey reveals that more than 70% of companies have fewer than one in 10 company car drivers still driving for work, while more than 90% of van drivers are also sitting at home, according to two thirds of companies.

It is, of course, primarily the essential services that are still on the road – emergency services, deliveries, construction and the like – and they make up the one in five fleets that have more than half their vans in operation.

Our thanks to them for the magnificent work they continue to do on behalf of us all.

You can find out exactly how the coronavirus is affecting the fleet sector and how companies are reacting by clicking on our April digital edition of Fleet News.

You’ll also learn about the new processes and practices Shaun Atton, fleet manager at our most improved fleet of the year Auto Windscreens, has introduced over the past couple of years which have saved his company more than £150,000. Some could be applied to your own fleet.

We also assess Nissan’s recent autonomous vehicle trial, considering the success of its 230-mile self-driving journey, and ask whether salary sacrifice is a perfect funding method for electric vehicles.

Spoiler alert: it is.

Features editor Andrew Ryan reveals why the company car is at the cusp of a renaissance and how fleet decision-makers and their employees can benefit. And we throw the Audi A3 Sportback and Peugeot 3008 Hybrid around a few bends (pre-coronavirus), while reporting on our long-termers from the comfort of our homes.

You can now register your interest for Fleet & Mobility Live, the most influential and biggest event for our industry – full details inside.

Enjoy the read and stay safe everyone.
