Acumen Automotive Logistics is undertaking major modifications to 20 of its trucks to enable drivers to increase the number of full-body covered vehicles they can safety load and unload.

Requested by its customer JLR, Acumen initially produced a prototype vehicle, approved by the company, and has now commissioned Riverside Truck Rental and Cartwright Trailers to carry out the work which will be undertaken over the next few months.

The modifications include extending walkways, installing additional safety posts and adding extra guide rails and removable foot plates and hand posts.

The alterations will provide drivers with additional protection enabling them to constantly maintain three points of contact at all times throughout the loading and unloading process.

When the work is completed, the car transporters will be able to carry up to two additional full-body covered vehicles.

This will provide greater operational efficiency and reduce the number of vehicle movements which in turn will help the environment, reduce fuel consumption and decrease traffic congestion

Peter Raybould, director of Acumen Automotive Logistics, said: “We work with our customers to ensure they receive the most efficient and cost effective service.

"By carrying out these modifications in line with JLR’s request, we have not only ensured further safety for our drivers but have also helped reduce CO2 emissions by modifying the trucks to carry additional finished vehicles”.
