Amberon Group says it has cut fuel expenditure by 10% and seen a 45% reduction in accidents, after installing Lightfoot across its fleet of 800-plus commercial vehicles.
The business, which provides a UK-wide service delivering solutions ranging from temporary traffic light schemes and high-speed contraflows to traffic management surveys as well as barrier installation, repair and event management, believes it is now on course to reducing its insurance premiums.
“We’ve used telematics solutions in the past,” said Amberon Group transport manager John Welch. “Drivers looked at the vehicle as a tool to do the job and no more. The engagement piece of the puzzle was missing.
“Now, with Lightfoot, that’s changed. There has been as psychological change in the relationship between our drivers and their vehicles, enabled by Lightfoot’s driver rewards, benefits and league platform.”
Welch told Commercial Fleet that Lightfoot has given his drivers a badge to prove they are professional drivers.
“Their mindset has changed completely,” he said. “Now, we have healthy competition.
“All our drivers have smartphones and compare their scores on the Lightfoot app and, as a result, accidents ratios have almost halved.
“Accidents are also less severe and, as long as we sustain these changes, our insurers have told us that we can expect a reduction in our premiums.”
Lightfoot founder and CEO, Mark Roberts, said: “Amberon’s drivers have embraced Lightfoot, competing one against another to see who’s the most efficient. This has enabled a universal change in driving style across the business in a very short space of time, without the challenges faced by other solutions where KPIs are ‘imposed’ on drivers, resulting in resistance to change.
“Encouraged by natural competitiveness to be better and with the added bonus of Lightfoot’s range of rewards once they achieve ‘Elite Driver’ standard, both drivers and the business have benefited, with fuel efficiency within the fleet rising from 21.9mpg to 24.1mpg.”
Lightfoot’s in-cab driver feedback and accompanying driver rewards platform aims to help drivers achieve greater efficiency from their vehicles, while reducing harmful emissions by up to 20%, at fault accidents by up to 40% and wear and tear costs by 45%.
The pocket-sized dashboard display device uses live engine data to provide drivers with real-time visual and verbal feedback, helping fleets to improve efficiency and safety one mile at a time.
Lightfoot provides drivers with an app, giving users full insight into their performance and score, alongside access to exclusive competitions which drivers can opt in to enter as soon as they achieve Lightfoot’s ‘Elite Driver’ standard.
In addition to the highly popular cash-prize Drivers’ Lottery, drivers can enter leagues for a range of other rewards that serve as an incentive to maintain a smoother driving style.
