The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has announced that MOT tests for lorries, buses or trailers will restart from July 4.

DVSA says that the deadline to get the test will depend on when the MOT was originally due.

DVSA suspended MOTs for all heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) and public service vehicles (PSVs) for three months from March 20, due to the coronavirus outbreak.

All HGV and PSV vehicles with an MOT were issued with a three-month certificate of temporary exemption (CTE), until further notice, said DVSA.

Vehicles and trailers originally due an MOT in March or April 2020 have been given two three-month exemptions. MOTs due in May, June or August 2020 will only get one three-month exemption.

You can check your vehicle or trailer’s MOT history to see when the exemption has been applied. This will be usually be done at the start of the month the MOT was originally due to expire in.

Whilst vehicles are exempt, the DVSA says that vehicles must be maintained, kept safe to drive (roadworhy) and operate within the terms of operators' licence conditions.
