Fleets of delivery drivers participating in Zego’s Risk Management Academy have seen a reduction of 22% in insurance claims.
Zego said the reduction followed after data-led telematics systems were fitted to vehicles, despite the surge in home delivery prompted by the pandemic.
Blue Sky Logistics, SJA Logistics, and VanUp spent three months trialling the commercial motor insurer’s fleet policy.
Zego said managers were provided with a ‘tailored approach’ by a road risk manager alongside their behavioural data to help improve the fleet's performance, during the trial.
Where drivers were showing high-risk driving behaviours, managers were able to facilitate conversations to help encourage safer behaviour on the road and reduce the number of insurance claims, Zego said.
Overall, 28 fleets (more than 1,210 vehicles) have taken part in Zego’s Risk Management Academy trials and have seen a 30% reduction in claims, on average.
Don McCormack, managing director of B2B at Zego, said: “Today’s data clearly shows that businesses can improve road safety and cut costs by using data-led telematics.
“Fleet businesses feel pressure to reduce costs as economic conditions worsen and keep up with customer demand post-pandemic. Fairer and more flexible insurance will provide a lifeline for many in the long run.
“Zego's unique risk management technology has provided a viable way for fleet owners to regain control of their insurance policies. By using these insights to improve their behaviour, they can unlock up to 15% cashback on their policy.”
Zego’s technology combines digital solutions and an in-house road risk management team, to help fleet managers engage their drivers with behavioural scores.
The most recent three-month trial of the technology and programme across three fleets follows the launch of Zego’s self-serve dashboard.
The self-serve dashboard offers insights and tips for fleet managers to coach high-risk drivers.
Zego said the tool has been used to manage more than 1,500 vehicles and on average and fleet managers have seen a 15% improvement in fleet scores resulting in a 17% reduction in claims frequency.
