Volkswagen Group has announced it will present plans to rectify the emissions scandal to government authorities in October.
The statement says that "customers affected will be informed that the emissions characteristics of their vehicles will be corrected in the near future", and reiterates that vehicles are technically safe and roadworthy.
All of the Group brands affected will set up national websites to update customers on developments.
The total make-up of vehicles affected is now clearer - with five million Volkswagen cars, 2.1 million Audi's, 1.8 million Volkswagen commercial vehicles, 1.2 million Skodas and 700,000 Seat cars making up the 11 million diesel vehicles across the group fitted with the affected EA 189 engines.
