Kia has revealed its new fastback sports saloon, the Stinger, in full European specification at the Geneva motor show.
In Europe, the Stinger will be available with a choice of three engines: a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine, a powerful 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6, and most importantly for fleet buyers a 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine.
The diesel engine is anticipated to account for the majority of Stinger sales across Europe. It produces 200PS and 440Nm of torque, so performance should be strong – 0 to 62mph takes 8.5 seconds.
The 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine produces 255PS but the Stinger’s most powerful engine is a 3.3-litre twin-turbocharged V6, with peak power of 370PS and 510Nm of torque it can accelerate to 60mph in just 5.1 seconds.
The Stinger features the second-generation of Kia’s electronic eight-speed automatic transmission, which is fitted as standard with all engines. It offers up to five different shift and throttle programmes which drivers can select through the car’s electronic Drive Mode Select. Drivers can leave the car to shift for itself, or change gears with steering wheel-mounted paddles.
The Stinger also features an electronically-adjustable suspension system which can be tuned via the Drive Mode Select depending on road conditions and driving style. It can be used to firm or soften the front and rear dampers independently, for tailored ride, response and agility. Drivers can choose from five drive modes: Eco, Sport, Sport+, Comfort and Smart.
Steering assistance and weight is also adjustable via the Drive Mode Select system.
The Stinger will be available with Kia’s latest Advanced Driver Assistance Systems such as Forward Collision Warning with Autonomous Emergency Braking and pedestrian recognition; Advanced Smart Cruise Control; Lane Keeping Assist System; Rear Cross Traffic Alert; Surround View Monitoring System for low-speed manoeuvres; Blind Spot Detection; and High Beam Assist.
The Kia Stinger will enter production in the second half of 2017, and will go on sale across Europe during the fourth quarter of the year. Pricing will be announced closer to the Stinger’s on-sale date.
