New generation petrol and diesel engines mean Vauxhall’s new Astra will offer CO2 emissions and fuel consumption up to 19% lower than the outgoing model on like-for-like WLTP.
The updated small family car range, which will go on sale in August with first deliveries in November, will be available with PSA-derived three-cylinder 1.2-litre and 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engines with power outputs between 110PS and 145PS, and three 1.5-litre turbodiesel offering between 105PS and 122PS.
The petrol models (see table below) will have CO2 emissions of between 120g/km and 136g/km, with WLTP combined fuel economy of 47.9pmg to 54.3mpg.
The diesel variants (see table below) will produce 117g/km to 139g/km of CO2 and offer combined fuel economy of 53.3mpg to 64.2mpg.
Astra will be available with a choice of six-speed manual, seven-speed continuously variable (CVT) and a new nine-speed automatic gearbox.
The new model also includes a number aerodynamic improvements aimed at increasing efficiency.
These include an engine compartment cover, deflector-shaped rear axle control arms and a full-face shutter.
The upper and lower portions of the new Astra’s radiator grille automatically open and close independently of each other to further improve the frontal airflow.
Other changes include new shock absorbers to increase comfort, while a heated windscreen is also introduced on selected models.
The updated Astra also features a new digital front camera which can recognise pedestrians as well as vehicles to improve safety, while its traffic sign recognition can process more signs and show them as symbols on the display.
Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard, while the both the infotainment system and instrument panel have been refreshed: the instrument cluster features a new digital speedometer.
