Citroen has officially launched its C5 X in the UK. The new flagship car has a greater focus on comfort and luxury.
The new model, which combines the attributes of large saloon, estate and SUV, costs from £27,790 (OTR).
Sharing a platform with the existing C5 Aircross, the new C5 X uses an extended wheelbase to improve passenger space, while the 545-litre boot offers the practicality of a traditional estate car.

A choice of two PureTech petrol engines and a plug-in hybrid engine is available. The entry-level model uses a 1.2-litre 130PS unit, while a 180PS 1.6-litre variant is also offered. The plug-in hybrid is the most powerful and the most efficent. It develops 225PS, has CO2 emissions of 30g/km and provides a 37-mile zero-emission range.
The C5 X introduces a new infotainment interface for Citroen that features a 12-inch central high definition touch screen, natural voice recognition and a customisable display with widgets, just like on a tablet.
The model line-up starts with Sense Plus trim, which includes 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, part leather-effect seats, a 10-inch central touchscreen twith sat-nav, front and rear parking sensors, and a reversing camera.
All Hybrid versions come with a 7.4kW single-phase on-board charger, a Mode 3 charging cable with a Type 2 connector, as well as remote temperature pre-conditioning. The car's 12.4kWh battery can be charged in 1 hour and 40 minutes.
Shine features an upgraded 12-inch central screen, leather and leather-effect seats, a heated steering wheel, ambient LED lighting and a head-up display.
Range-topping Shine Plus versions add extra tinted quarter-panel windows at the rear, leather upholstery, electrically operated and heated front seats, acoustically insulated front and rear windows, a motorised tailgate and a 360-degree reversing camera.
Compared to traditional large car rivals, Citroen says the new C5 X delivers “surprise and excitement at first sight”. It is inspired by the CXperience Concept that was unveiled at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.
