MG Motor UK is expecting its new MG5 battery electric estate car will help it continue its rapid sales growth.

To the end of June this year, the manufacturer had registered 10,760 cars in the UK, an 89% increase on the same period last year.

Key to this growth are its MG5 and ZS EV fully-electric cars, and its HS Plug-in Hybrid.

Speaking at Company Car in Action, Geraint Isaac, national fleet sales manager at MG Motor UK, said: “Certainly in the past four or five months we’ve seen a significant increase in the volume of inquiries in our product, so I think the fleet market is starting to have a big rejuvenation.

“We’re really pleased with the way things are going and the growth that we have is steady.

“We’ve got two fully-electric vehicles that are obviously very attractive to the fleet market because of the very low benefit-in-kind tax and we’ve recently launched HS plug-in hybrid which, again, for fleet buyers is very attractive.

“We’re getting some traction on all those models with both major and smaller fleets, as well as user-chooser operators with salary sacrifice schemes.”

He added: “MG5 is unique in that we are the only manufacturer that has a fully-electric estate car, and there are a number of segments of the fleet market that will cater for.

“This could be service engineers or engineers per se, you’ve got the ride-hailing market, and even as pool cars and essential user cars.”
