Cupra's first electric car, the Born, has been awarded a five-star rating by Green NCAP.
The Born, which went on sale earlier this year, scored the second highest overall score of all the cars tested by Green NCAP to date.
The organisation gave the car 10/10 in the 'Clean Air' category, 9.3/10 for 'Energy Efficiency' and 9.6/10 for 'Greenhouse Gas'.
Safety rating organisation Euro NCAP launched the new green car assessment programme in conjunction with European Governments, motoring clubs and other organisations, in 2019.
It aims to promote cars that are less polluting and more fuel- and energy-efficient by providing consumers with independent information about cars’ performance in tests that go well beyond legislative requirements to uncover the differences between manufacturers’ emissions-control strategies.
For 2022, the Green NCAP rating criteria received an update. As powertrain technologies improve and the car market moves rapidly towards electrification, test protocols and rating scheme have been adjusted to better suit the rapidly evolving technology and sustainability trends.
Two other models were tested in October: the Fiat 500 1.0 Hybrid and the Seat Ibiza 1.0 TSI. The Fiat scored three stars, while the Seat manages 2.5 stars.
