MG has confirmed the pricing and specification for its new MG3 hybrid supermini, which is larger and more efficient than its petrol-only predecessor.
The new model, which is on sale now, features the manufacturer’s new Hybrid+ powertrain, which uses a 1.5-litre petrol engine and an electric motor, for a combined power output of 194PS.
It returns combined fuel economy of 64.2mpg and CO2 emissions of 100g/km. Its efficiency is aided by a larger 1.83kWh battery to allow for greater electric-only running time.
The MG3 is available in two trim levels: SE and Trophy. Both feature a twin-screen cockpit which gives the driver a seven-inch digital instrument screen as well as a 10.25-inch central infotainment screen.
Sat-nav is fitted as standard, as is smartphone integration through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Other equipment includes air conditioning, six-speaker audio system with Bluetooth connection, four USB ports, and rear parking sensors and camera.
The Trophy, priced from £20,495, features leather-style upholstery, keyless entry, heated front seats and steering wheel, and 360-degree camera.
The MG3 also features a number of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). MG Pilot technology includes lane keep assist with lane departure warning system, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, and traffic jam assist.
The MG3 will have five drive modes, each automatically selected by the Hybrid+ system. These are:
- EV – running on electric-only power for as long as charge allows
- Series – Engine runs through to the generator, which powers the electric motor for drive
- Series and charge – series driving, plus topping-up the battery when under low-load
- Drive and charge – engine drives the wheels, while also charging the battery through the generator
- Parallel – both engine and electric motor power the wheels.
Drivers can tailor the MG3’s responsiveness with the choice of three driving modes – eco, standard and sport.
