New MG S5 will offer up to 298 miles of range

MG has confirmed pricing and range for the all-new S5, a compact electric SUV that replaces the ZS EV.

Prices will start at £28,495 (OTR) for the three-model line-up, when it goes on sale in April.

Unlike its predecessor, which used a combustion engine platform, the S5 is based on MG's bespoke electric vehicle (EV) underpinnings.

The S5 is offered with two battery options: a 49kWh unit for the SE Standard Range and a 64kWh unit for SE Long Range and the Trophy Long Range.

The 64kWh battery provides a combined driving range of 298 miles on the SE Long Range and 288 miles for the Trophy Long Range. 

Rapid Charging (10% to 80%) of the 49kWh battery takes 24 minutes. The larger 64kWh battery can be charged in 28 minutes. Maximum DC charging is 120kW for the 49kWh battery and 139kW for the 64kWh battery.

The rear-wheel-drive S5 is powered by a 231PS electric motor, which enables a 0-62mpg acceleration time in 6.3 seconds.

MG has revised its infotainment system for the S5. The new setup uses a 12.8-inch central touchscreen which is paired with a small panel of physical switchgear that provides control of the climate and audio functions.

The on-screen interface has been simplified and now includes shortcuts to functions such as heated seats. MG has also revised the settings for its MG Pilot driver assistance system, enabling drivers to customise their preferred configuration more easily.

The MG S5 SE Standard Range will be available for £28,495 OTR, SE Long Range is £30,995 OTR and the range-topping Trophy Long Range completes the line-up at £33,495.
