Audi’s revised A3 Sportback and saloon range is now available with a new entry-level engine, lowering the starting price of the model to £28,920 (OTR).
The updated, fourth-generation A3 has been on sale in the UK since mid-April, and the 1.0-litre petrol engine, producing 116PS, will be available in the 30 TFSI.
It is available with either a six-speed manual or seven-speed S tronic gearbox, and is available in either Sport or S line trim.
The 30 TFSI Sportback manual will have a WLTP combined fuel economy of 50.4mpg and CO2 emissions of 128g/km, while these figures are 51.4mpg and 124g/km respectively for the saloon.
The new powertrain joins the existing 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre diesel units found in the 35 TFSI and 35 TDI, each with a power output of 150PS.
The 35 TFSI can now also be ordered with the option of a six-speed manual transmission.
An updated plug-in hybrid powertrain, known as TFSIe, will be added to the line-up at the end of the year.
Three trim levels are offered: Sport, S Line and Black Edition.
The standard equipment list is generous and includes heated front seats, LED headlights, a digital instrument cluster, front and rear parking sensors, electric folding door mirrors and sat-nav.
Stepping up to S-Line gains sportier styling, 18-inch alloy wheels, interior ambient lighting and sport suspension.
Black Edition comes with 19-inch wheels and black exterior trim pieces.
All three grades can be enhanced with the Technology Pack (£1,495), which comes with a reversing camera, adaptive cruise control, Sonos sound system and head-up display.
There's also Technology Pack Pro (£4,995), which comes with Matrix LED lights, keyless entry and a sunroof.
Exterior changes include revisions to the bumpers and lights, while the interior is also refreshed.
It includes updates to the shifter design, air vents, decorative fabric inlays and new interior lighting.
The A3 is digital and connected thanks to numerous connect services, functions on demand and an app store.
All models come with a 10.1-inch touch display, along with the Audi virtual cockpit plus and wireless smartphone charger.
The app store on the infotainment system allows the driver to use a range of third-party applications via the vehicle’s display.
Safety equipment includes Audi pre-sense front, collision avoidance and turn assist, and lane departure warning.
Adaptive cruise control has been supplemented by an assisted lane change function. The system handles acceleration, braking and steering at speeds of up to 130mph, and also assists with lane changes at speeds above 56mph on faster roads.
In city traffic, park assist with parking system plus helps the driver in parking and reversing out of parking spaces through precise steering manoeuvres.
Lane change warning, exit warning and rear cross-traffic assist use the rear radars to monitor traffic behind and alongside the vehicle.
