Revised Toyota Yaris Cross to offer enhanced driver and safety tech

Toyota has announced full specifications and pricing for its revised Yaris Cross range, which is now on sale.

The B-SUV is priced from £25,530 OTR for the entry Icon model, rising to £34,885 for the limited edition Premiere Edition AWD model.

The facelift completes a full revision of Toyota’s small car line-up with new Aygo X and Yaris hatchback.

The first round of revisions for Yaris Cross include the introduction of a new digital user experience. Toyota says this includes both a customisable driver’s instrument and a new multimedia system.

The driver instrument panel – 12.3-inch on Excel, GR Sport and Premier Edition models and seven-inch on Icon and Design – has four style options: smart, casual, sporty and tough.

The Toyota Smart Connect multimedia system is operated through a 10.5-inch (nine-inch for Icon) touchscreen and features cloud-based navigation as standard, a more responsive voice recognition system, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Yaris Cross also offers a smart digital key. Linked to the My Toyota app, this gives up to five users access to the vehicle using their smartphone.

Toyota says the advanced safety features on Yaris Cross have been enhanced and extended with the revised model.

These include using a new camera and radar system which can scan further and wider than before, improving the capabilities of the pre-collision system, which can recognise a potential head-on impact with a wider range of objects and vehicles in the car’s path, including pedestrians, cyclists and now also motorcycles.

Acceleration Suppression is a new addition to the Toyota Safety Sense portfolio. This intervenes to slow any sudden acceleration when it recognises the risk of a collision with a vehicle ahead.

Proactive Driving Assist (PDA) is another new feature, designed to help avoid familiar accident hazards when driving at low speed.

Deceleration Assist provides smooth deceleration when the driver releases the accelerator to slow down when approaching a slower vehicle ahead, or entering a bend.

The second element of PDA is Steering Assist, which recognises a bend in the road ahead and adjusts steering force to help the driver make a smooth and stable turn.

The range is available with Toyota’s established 116PS hybrid petrol engine, as well as a new, more powerful hybrid powertrain, which will be introduced in the GR Sport and Premiere Edition versions. This sees a 14% increase in power output to 132PS.

This reduces the 0-62mph time by half a second to 10.7 seconds.

The 116PS powertrain produces 101-115g/km of CO2 with fuel efficiency of 62.7-55.3mpgg.

The new engine achieves 109-115g/km of CO2, with fuel economy of 58.8mpg.
