Bosch has announced the launch of a new app, Perfectly Keyless, which claims to provide fleets with the ‘world’s first’ keyless entry system for trucks.

The app will launch on September 12 at Cenex Low Carbon Vehicle event, in hopes to replace the analogue vehicle key with a digital version that is “impossible to lose or steal”.

Bosch Automotive’s president of the electronics division Harald Kröger said: “Our Perfectly Keyless app makes conventional vehicle keys a thing of the past, taking it into the digital realm and making it available anywhere, anytime."

Perfectly Keyless offers owners of private vehicles increased convenience, but where it really shines is in vehicle fleets with multiple drivers. Fleet managers will no longer have to coordinate complex key handovers or manual adjustments of settings.

They can simply use the app to give drivers access to the vehicles. In an industry where every minute counts, the potential time and money savings are significant.

Kröger said: “Thanks to Bosch’s fully digital key management, logistics providers enjoy both security and flexibility in their planning. This is the only way the logistics of the future will be able to function efficiently.”

Bosch’s new system provides an app that dispatchers and truck drivers both have on their phones, making it possible to grant vehicle access with just a few clicks.

In the future, logistics providers will be able to completely integrate digital key management into their dispatch and scheduling systems, the system automatically generates digital keys for the vehicles.

In the future, the smartphone key will work even if the phone battery is dead using near-field communication (NFC), a wireless protocol for sharing data over short distances.

If the smartphone carrying the app is lost or stolen, the digital key can be deactivated online, blocking access to the vehicle.

The technology will also be showcased globally at the IAA Commercial Vehicles event in Hannover from  September 19.
