Tual is launching swappable batteries for electric heavy goods vehicles (eHGVs) to help address challenges facing commercial fleets looking to switch to zero emissions.

The PowerBank Pro-Charging offering comes in 120kWh and 180kWh versions and can add up to 120 miles of range, depending on application.

Battery swaps can be completed in less than five minutes and Tual said the system is compatible with existing eHGV platforms.

UK HGV fleets are currently at a crossroads, with regulatory pressures and sustainability goals driving a rapid shift towards zero-emission vehicles.

Philip Clarke, chief executive and founder of Tual, said the transition to eHGVs has been hindered by a lack of a "robust and accesible" megawatt charging network.

He said: “The transition to electric heavy goods vehicles is essential for achieving our environmental targets, but they are handicapped by limited range.

“This impacts the use-cases and routes they can operate on, as the current charging infrastructure is simply not scaled for heavy goods vehicles.

“Our swappable PowerBanks are designed to bridge this gap, providing a flexible solution that keeps eHGV fleets on the move.

“This technology is ready for deployment now, offering a viable alternative to the long-mooted and long-delayed public megawatt charging network.”
