Safety and best practice programme FORS was using Commercial Fleet Van and Truck as a chance to meet potential new members and discuss its Vansmart training programme.

James Nankivell, senior consultant at FORS, said the scheme would help bring van fleets up to a similar level of compliance as HGVs.

"The programme is made up of a competency framework, classroom training and an on-cycle practical session.

"Crossrail and Transport for London projects have driven up take-up of the programme, and we expect 9,000 van drivers to pass through the scheme over the next two years."
