Auto Windscreens is aiming to improve road safety by adding new Ford vans with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) to its UK automotive glass repair fleet.
Available through a safety pack launched by Ford in 2018, the newly introduced Customs now feature adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, collision mitigation with pedestrian detection, speed sign recognition, auto high beam and driver impairment monitoring.
Shaun Atton (pictured), Auto Windscreens’ fleet manager, said: “Whilst ADAS is massively popular on cars, much of the technology is relatively new to the commercial vehicle market. This is why we are only now adopting this technology, which we view as vital to future road safety.
“Automotive research company, ICDP recently stated that ADAS could help cut crashes by 15% in the main European markets by 2030 and our fleet can now help make this forecast become a reality. We expect to see a reduction in incidents as a result of having the additional safety features and will be carefully monitoring the impact of these.”
Auto Windscreens’ introduction of ADAS to technicians’ vans adds to a wider plan to improve road safety across the UK-wide business.
In addition to bringing ADAS to its fleet, Auto Windscreens launched the UK’s only manufacturer-approved ADAS recalibration solution in 2017.
