Vauxhall has launched the all-new Vivaro van at the Commercial Vehicle Show, at the Birmingham NEC.
Based on Groupe PSA’s EMP2 platform, Vauxhall says the new van will help secure 1,250 jobs at its manufacturing plant in Luton, with investment in the new vehicle increasing the plant’s production capacity to 100,000 units per year.
“As the UK’s largest CV manufacturer celebrating its 90th year of van production, we’re proud to present a new Vivaro model that not only has class-leading credentials, but also secures the future of our Luton workforce for many years to come,” said Stephen Norman, Vauxhall’s group managing director.
Vauxhall will offer a pure electric version of the new Vivaro next year.
Equipped with the 100PS 1.5-litre engine, the manufacturer says the standard wheelbase Vivaro has, provisionally, 22% lower emissions and returns a 16% increase in MPG performance than the market leader.
The same engine with 120PS – again, provisionally - has 27% fewer emissions and achieves 57.6mpg – 14% higher than the market leader.
It offers a payload of up to 1,489kgs.
Available to order now and arriving in Vauxhall showrooms this summer, the third generation Vivaro medium van is a based on a state-of-the-art platform and available in two lengths (L1H1 4.95m and L2H1 5.30m). Body styles include panel van, doublecab for up to six occupants and a platform chassis.
Priced from £22,918.33 excluding VAT, the Vivaro will be available in three trim levels: Edition, Sportive and Elite.
Dual Side Sliding Door, Driver/Passenger Airbags and Cruise Control with speed-limiter are all available as standard on Vivaro for the first time.
Reflecting the demands of an evolving market, Sportive models are higher specification than the outgoing model with standard equipment including body coloured mirrors, handles and body side moulds, alarm, auto lights and wipers, acoustic windscreen and thickened side glazing.
The top-of-the range Elite model features the latest safety technology as standard including Lane Departure Warning, Speed Limit Information, Intelligent Speed Adaptation, Driver Attention Alert Level Three and Blind Spot Detection.

I am a bit puzzled as the new Vivaro looks smaller than the previous version and the Transit Custom. Is the cargo volume less? Also needs a high roof derivative.
