Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has confirmed details of a new plug-in hybrid powertrain for the Caddy.

The Caddy eHybrid has a 75-mile electric range, made possible by a 19.7kWh battery.

It uses a 1.5-litre petrol engine and electric motor, giving a combined output of 150PS.

The battery can be charged at 11kW (AC) and up to 50kW at a public rapid charger.

The Caddy eHybrid is available as a passenger van and as a Cargo version. Both are available with a normal wheelbase – as a passenger van with five seats and as a Cargo version with two seats. In addition, the PHEV Caddy is also available as a Maxi version with a long wheelbase, which can accommodate up to seven people as a passenger van. All plug-in hybrids are equipped with a six-speed dual clutch gearbox.

Prices for the Caddy Cargo eHybrid start in Germany at €36,985 (£31,679) ex VAT. UK pricing and specifications are yet to be released.
