The ‘most reliable’ light commercial vehicles (LCVs) have been identified according to their claim rate.

The data, from Warranty Solutions Group (WSG), found that the Renault Master was the most reliable van, with a claim rate of just 4.55%.

The findings are based on a sample of 1,000 LCV claims paid by WSG last year.

To ensure a fair analysis, says WSG, the data excluded any models with less than 100 sales across its dealer network.

The top three most common warranty claims for the Master were starter motors/solenoids averaging £446.96, Adblue pumps (£1,210.45) and turbochargers (£1,372.67).

The Vauxhall Combo Cargo demonstrated its reliability by securing second place with a claim rate of 10.86%.

The top three top issues with the Vauxhall Combo were Adblue injectors averaging £285, turbochargers (£884.00) and DPFs (£1,542.20).

The Mercedes Sprinter sits in third place, with a claim rate of 11.20%. The top three top problems with the Mercedes Sprinter were alternators averaging £444.85, starter motors/solenoids (£496.58) and Nox sensors (£686.21).

Most common claims by model

Mark Bobbins, head of commercial vehicle sales at WSG, said: “For businesses that rely on LCVs—such as couriers, tradespeople, and service providers—vehicle downtime directly impacts revenue.

“Reliable vans and pickups ensure seamless operations, reducing the risk of missed deliveries, project delays, or lost contracts.”

Bobbins continued: “Our findings highlight the real cost of breakdowns, not just in terms of parts and repairs, but also in vehicle downtime, lost productivity, and delivery disruption.

“Frequent breakdowns not only lead to costly repairs but also disrupt schedules, requiring businesses to rent replacement vehicles.

“Reliability in the LCV market isn’t just about keeping vehicles on the road, it’s a key driver of business success. From cost savings to brand reputation, operational efficiency, and compliance, investing in dependable vehicles is a strategic decision that impacts the bottom line.”

The WSG warranty claims analysis is sourced from live, empirical data which showcases the reliability of vehicles across different segments, highlighting the most and least dependable.

Separate research, conducted annually for the Fleet News FN50 reliability index, found that the VW Transporter, was the most reliable van last year, overtaking the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and ending its nine-year stronghold at the top of the reliability ranking.

The annual FN50 survey is the largest of its kind and this reliability ranking is based on data from a collective fleet of more than 460,000 commercial vehicles.
