FLEETS can now place their order for February next year delivery of the range-topping Volkswagen Golf five-door V5, available with either a manual or automatic transmission. Priced at £18,895 on-the-road for the manual and £19,720 for the automatic, the V5 has the new five-cylinder Volkswagen engine under the bonnet, the first of its kind to be fitted to a car.

Its cylinders are arranged in one bank of two and one of three, set at a narrow angle of 15 degrees. Derived from Volkswagen's VR6 engine, the unit provides 150bhp from 2,324cc. Peak power is delivered at 6,000rpm and acceleration from 0-62mph, with the car loaded to half payload, takes 8.8secs.

Average fuel consumption is 30.4mpg and top speed is 134mph. The V5 comes with a three-year unlimited mileage warranty and 12-year anti-perforation warranty.
