GARAGE operator Kerr & Smith has been appointed sales, service and repair outlet for Iveco Ford trucks and vans in the West of Scotland. The company, which is based in Cumnock, has held the Iveco-Ford franchise in Ayrshire for more than two years.

The move safeguards the future of 25 jobs at the company's facility in Kilbirnie Street in Glasgow's South Side, with a joint injection of £1 million by Kerr & Smith and Iveco-Ford set to create 15 new jobs by the year 2000.

Company director Jim Smith said the business would quickly be geared towards meeting the rapidly evolving needs of commercial vehicle operators - which would eventually lead to a need to move to a purpose-built centre.
