EX-Tottenham Hotspur triallist Roger Partridge, now general manager of Crowthorne, Berks, contract hire and daily rental company Leasedrive, is taking the 1998 RAC-Fleet News Five-a-Side Charity Soccer Challenge very seriously. He e-mailed the entire workforce in a bid to capture the best players.
A 90-minute trial was held at Bracknell Sports Centre for 22 company hopefuls. Partridge was calling the shots after volunteering to be Leasedrive's manager, but after hanging up his boots at the age of 20 had no intention of playing. However, he was forced on to the pitch and ended up as the second highest scorer and is now in danger of making the team. Competition is limited to the first 40 teams who apply and pay the £275 entry fee.
