PRICES for Vauxhall's seven-seat Zafira start at £14,500 on the road for the entry-level 1.6 16v, it was announced this week. The Zafira, Vauxhall's long-awaited answer to the five-seat Renault Megane Scenic in the burgeoning mini multi-purpose vehicle class, has now started entering UK showrooms.

On-the-road prices for the other Zafiras in the four-model line-up are: Comfort 1.6 16v £15,750; Comfort 1.8 16v £16,250; Elegance 1.8 16v £17,500. A 2.0 Di version is due in the autumn. Option prices are: passenger side airbags £150, air conditioning £650 (£200 more than on Astra), ABS £395, alloy wheels £390, CD player £210. Insurance group ratings are: 1.6 16v 5E, Comfort 1.6 16v 6E, Comfort 1.8 16v 7E, Elegance 1.8 16v 8E.
