HYUNDAI and Kia are to cut their number of vehicle platforms from 20 to seven as part of a radical restructuring aimed at reducing costs and improving quality.

The move will allow joint suppliers to the two Korean manufacturers - Hyundai took a 51% controlling stake in Kia last year - to modernise and simplify production processes and improve competitiveness.
