VOLKSWAGEN has cut the price of its new Beetle - by adding an eight-valve 102bhp 1.6-litre petrol engine option. Specification is otherwise the same as the £14,950 2.0-litre 115bhp version.

The 1.6 costs £12,995 on-the-road. The manufacturer has no current plans to introduce a diesel engine for the UK.
