The Renault Laguna is still the safest upper medium fleet car on sale in Europe, according to the latest Euro NCAP crash tests.

Vehicles including the Ford Mondeo, Citroen C5, BMW 3-series, Skoda Octavia and Volvo S60 scored four stars in the tests - but none of them could beat the Laguna's five-star rating. However, the gap between new and older cars was shown with the Opel Vectra and Peugeot 406 achieving three stars. (December 2001)
