MAZDA has been named as the most reliable car manufacturer in the UK, according to new data produced by independent automotive warranty specialist, Warranty Direct.

The Japanese company has topped the Warranty Direct Manufacturer Index, which can be found at www.reliabilityindex.co.uk, for the past three years.

Warranty Direct found that its cars aged well and that infrequent garage visits, quick repair times and reasonable bills helped consolidate its position.

As well as representing the frequency of failure, the index also includes the actual cost of repair. The average age of the vehicles analysed by Warranty Direct was 4.8 years old with 49,702 miles recorded.

Second spot goes to Ford and the biggest improvement since 2002 came from Nissan, which jumped nine places to eighth in the list of 23 manufacturers analysed.
