FLEETS are this week urged to put road safety at the top of their agendas as part of the national Road Safety Week, co-ordinated by Brake.

The theme this year is child pedestrians and the need to slow down, with the emphasis being on increasing driver awareness of these vulnerable groups.

Sainsbury's, co-sponsor of the week, is running a range of initiatives. Several of the supermarket giant's depots are involved in schemes that include driver of the year competitions and safety awareness shows.

Cutting accidents among company car and van drivers is also the subject of a new document launched by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents.

Called Managing Occupational Road Risk, the guide will help businesses and organisations adapt to recent guidance from the Health and Safety Executive and the Department for Transport on driving for work. Visit www.rospa.com for more details.

And risk management goes under the spotlight in 'Risk Management: a Critical Guide' produced by ALD Automotive, in association with the RAC. The guide is available free from info@aldautomotive. co.uk
