THE RAF Mountain Rescue Service (MRS) has worked with vehicle suppliers to create a unique new vehicle based on a Mercedes-Benz 4x4 Sprinter.

To meet the requirements of mountain rescue specifications, supplier Lex Defence worked with the Ministry of Defence to carry out an evaluation to ensure it delivered the most appropriate fleet. Lex Defence also worked with specialist vehicle builder Dytecna to develop vehicle conversions and arranged driver training with Mercedes-Benz for representatives who would train RAF personnel.

The result was a fleet of seven vehicles based on the four-wheel drive Mercedes-Benz 416 CDI Sprinter that acts as a mobile incident HQ.

On board is a communication suite of radios and telephones so that the MRS can relay information to search parties wherever they are.
