VW Amarok finally breaks cover

There was no shortage of admirers on the Volkswagen stand when the wraps finally came off the new Amarok 4x4, which is due to go on sale in May.

This vehicle represents the firm’s first foray into the sector and promises to shake up the opposition with its smooth ride and handling.

The Amarok will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine offering 122bhp or 163bhp and is the first in the sector to duck under the 200g/km emissions barrier.

All models offer a six-speed manual gearbox and the less powerful variant returns 37.2mpg on the combined cycle. ESC stability control and hill-hold assist are standard.
Prices range from £16,995 to £21,995 ex-VAT.
