A super-economy version of BMW’s top-selling 5 Series model is ready to go into UK showrooms, as predicted by Fleet News in January.

The latest car to feature eco technology branded as EfficientDynamics by the German firm, the 520d ED model will blend 62.8mpg economy with tailpipe emissions of just 119g/km.

The executive saloon will be powered by a 184bhp version of the 2.0-litre diesel motor developed for the 320d ED model unveiled last year. The smaller model produces 163bhp.

The 520d ED will become the most powerful sub-120g/km car on the market.

The price of the car is expected to be £29,650 when it is announced next month (July 1). At the same time an ED version of the X1 crossover model will also be confirmed that will also boast 119g/km of CO2.
