UK Power Networks has boosted customer response and improved operational efficiencies with Masternaut vehicle tracking. The system helps with managing its field staff resources and fleet of 1,500 vehicles. With the web-based system, UK Power Networks can ensure high quality of service to the eight million homes and businesses it serves in London, the South East and East of England.
Colin Barden, head of network operations South East at UK Power Networks, said: “Masternaut allows us to be very responsive to our customers’ needs. We use it to dispatch the nearest applicable resource to deal with any incident ranging from a power cut to emergencies such as collisions with street lights. The system identifies each member of our extensive field staff team and where they are in relation to the incident. We may need an engineer or a cable jointer and with the system we can locate precisely who we need on screen and get them onsite in the shortest possible and safest time.”

“Masternaut is part of our toolkit for improving efficiencies and it has significantly reduced operating costs in terms of administration, fuel consumption and better utilisation of vehicles. We have even been able to identify and release underutilised vehicles because the system monitors and records vehicle usage. Being able to locate the nearest resource also reduces road miles and associated fuel consumption and CO2 emissions,” he said.
